More about Dr. Matthew J. Coats, DDS, MS
Dr. Coats is a native Texan, but please do not hold that against him. He arrived here in California in the summer of 2011as soon as he could. He attended dental school at the University of Texas in Houston, Dental Branch. After completing dental school in 1989, Dr. Coats set up a new private general dentistry practice in his hometown of Arlington, Texas.
After eight successful years as a general dentist, Dr. Coats returned to school to further his education. He attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for his specialty training in orthodontics. Since graduating from his orthodontics residency, Dr. Coats has worked in both private orthodontic practice and corporate orthodontic practice.
Dr. Coats is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association.
Dr. Coats became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry while he was a general dentist. He has taken hundreds of hours of continuing dental education in his career.
While in his orthodontic residency, Dr. Coats developed, tested and patented an appliance that can eliminate the need for extraction of permanent teeth during orthodontic treatment. The appliance is called “The Coats’ Translator”.
Dr. Coats was also an Associate Clinical Professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the Department of Orthodontics for several years after his graduation.
Dr. Coats two adult beautiful children, Lauren and Landon. Landon is currently interested in digital film. Lauren is special needs is lives in a group home.

In all the years Ihe been coming to doctors coats, every time he has been the best! From asking how I'm doing, to having the assistants to bring a drink of water to all patient. Best Dr. I've ever had.
