Dr. Meenakshi Balakrishnan fulfilled her dental training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine from where she graduated as a valedictorian.
She proceeded to the University of Illinois at Chicago for an additional three years of orthodontic residency. In conjunction with her orthodontic residency, Dr. Balakrishnan earned a masters degree in Oral Sciences as well. Aside from private practice, Dr. Balakrishnan is involved in many professional associations.
She was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society, upon completion of her dental training. She is also an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the Midwest Society of Orthodontists. Dr. Balakrishnan is also board certified in Orthodontics by the North Eastern Regional Board. She teaches the dental students at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry.
Dr. Balakrishnan is commited to continue a family tradition of excellence. Her husband (Dr. Balu Natarajan), a Downers Grove North High School graduate, is a Sports Medicine physician practicing in Lincoln Park. He also won the National Spelling Bee in 1985. He is the only Chicagoan ever to win the title. They have been married 12 years and have two sons, named Atman and Advaith. Her hobbies include running, biking, cooking, reading and yoga. She is trilingual (English, Hindi and Tamil).
