Let me tell you a bit of my history. My friends call me Stan. I was raised in Houston, Texas. I graduated from StephenF.AustinStateUniversity (1971) with a BS degree, majoring in biology and minoring in math and chemistry. Then I graduated from The University of Texas Dental School at the HealthSciencesCenter in Houston (1975) with my DDS degree. I had a few years in private practice in Houston, Texas, but my wife and I both wanted something more than living in Houston for the rest of lives. I spent the next five years serving in the U.S. Air Force overseas in Panama and Germany. After the Air Force I taught four years in dental schools, first at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry, and then at The University of Tennessee School of Dentistry in Memphis. Part of dental school faculty promotion and one of the reasons I began teaching is that you have to do research and publish, both of which I am passionate about. I decided that I needed more education and I graduated from the University of Alabama Dental School in Birmingham, Alabama (1988) with a Master’s in Biomaterials and Clinical research. I continued to teach and head up both the Restorative Division and the Clinical Research area at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine.
My wife for 38 years, a beautiful woman, and my best friend, Dianne, told me that you can take the boy out of Texas but you can never take Texas out of the boy. We moved back to Texas in 1995 after being out of the state for 18 years. I started a successful private practice in Dallas, but still wanted to do research to promote the field of dentistry. After 13 years in Dallas I needed a place to continue my research career. To that end, I moved to this practice in San Antonio because it allows me an affiliation with a major research dental school, The University of Texas Health Sciences in San Antonio Dental School. I hold an appointment as an adjunct associate professor in biomaterials, where I am conducting research on composite resin and other biomaterials used in dentistry. This position has allowed me to do the two things in my professional career that I love- restorative dentistry and research. While working on the more than 30 papers that have been published in dental journals worldwide, I have had the privilege of working with a lot of talented gentlemen. I have also had the pleasure of building my life in beautiful San Antonio, enjoying the one hobby that I love and hate- golf and golf club building.
