Best dentist I have had in NYC. Super friendly doctor and wonderful staff (receptionist, billing, and hygienists)! I love this dentist and I’ve been to 5 different dentists since moving to NYC nine years ago! I’m so happy I found this practice. I never feel like they are pulling my leg to get more money out of me or doing unnecessary xrays. I even decided to forgo the pediatric dentist and bring my toddler to Dr. Berkowitz. I highly recommend him and this practice.

Dr. Berkowitz is the most honest, experienced and professional dentist in NYC (maybe even the country). I've been going to him for 10 years since graduating college and there is no one else I would trust to work on my teeth; he's saved me from getting unnecessary drillings and wisdom teeth extractions on two separate occasions that other dentists advised during routine cleanings when my work hours prevented me from getting to his office.
Dr. B has a wait-and-observe approach to cavity growth whereas the new school dentists just drill whenever they see the faintest shadow in an x-ray to maximize profits. Dr. Berkowitz puts honor, the patient's health, and their best interest above that.
He's very thorough in his general health check as well and noticed I had an extra heartbeat when examining my blood pressure and pulse, which my general practitioner never even spotted!
Lastly, I would put his personality and 'bedside manner' on par with his level of experience. Great sense of humor, genuine interest in your life, and always a positive and happy way about him.

This is a super late review (for which I apologize!). But, Dr. Berkowitz is super professional, helpful, and straightforward. He was able to assess quickly and give me lots of information. One of the most eye-opening things was that I'd been grinding my teeth at night! I had no idea that I'd been doing that - what a change it was when I got the nighttime bite guards! Thank you!

I recently moved and was in dire need of a checkup. In the past, I have had more than a few pushy, undesirable experiences with dental professionals and, as a result, I became extremely apprehensive about dental work. I needed someone who I could trust, more than anything. After reading reviews about Dr. Berkowitz's office, I decided to go for it and I am so glad that I did! He spoke to me with such a caring demeanor and really put my mind at ease. I felt very comfortable in his hands, and it was great to have him tell me step by step what was going on and periodically ask me how I was doing (and not in the standard, zombified way most people ask; I mean he actually wanted to know how I was doing throughout the process of my cleaning and exam). He's frank, honest, and really really good at what he does. I was in and out in under 45 minutes too, which was an added bonus that I wasn't expecting for a first-time patient. Thanks, Dr. B!

My visit with Dr. Berkowitz wasn't just disappointing, it was downright traumatic - I left the office in tears. I scheduled an appointment for a consultation to have a veneer replaced, as cosmetic dentistry is listed as one of his specialties (although he later claimed that it is impossible to specialize in that field). He spent the first 10-15 minutes of the appointment asking me about my family and education, at the end of which he claimed that "he knew my type" and "could tell what I was like." He told me he’d replaced many veneers over course of his career when I asked whether he was able to perform this procedure, but then went on to describe a patient with the same problem from years ago as “aggravating” and “impossible to please.” Subsequently he began listing all my options, all of which included seeing his son (also a dentist) or another dentist altogether. He silenced me every time I attempted to ask a question about one of these options, insisting that I “let him finish his list.” When I expressed my confusion that none of these options involved the immediate treatment of my chipped tooth, he tried to convince me that my problem was not urgent and appeared reluctant to even believe that I was in any discomfort or pain in the first place.
At this point I became extremely confused; not only had I directly requested a replacement of the broken veneer both before and during the consultation and clearly was not seeking a temporary fix, but he also continually suggested I go see another dentist despite the fact that he had confirmed his own ability to perform the procedure I was requesting. Eventually I asked him directly whether or not he was going to fix my tooth, and he shook his head. While his justification was that “he didn’t think he’d be able to make me happy,” the undertone of his message was painfully obvious: he didn’t want to treat me because he assumed I’d be difficult to please. I realized afterwards that his questions about my upbringing were not attempts to foster a sense of kinship or trust - he was actually just forming a biased judgment about who I was and the kind of patient I would be. I left his office feeling rejected, defeated, and strangely ashamed of the fact that I was well-educated, as if this somehow disqualified me from receiving treatment because my standards for the dental care I receive would be too “aggravating” for him to meet, and he didn’t want to deal with it.
Dr. Berkowitz clings to the fact that “at least he’s honest” to mask his unwillingness to treat patients that will demand top-tier care from him, despite the fact that he advertises himself as being capable of providing it. He clearly has little confidence in his own abilities, and I highly advise anyone reading this to take that awareness at face value and seek out another dentist who isn’t afraid to be held accountable for the treatment they provide.

He's totally awesome. It's a small practice, from what I could tell - there were two hygienists and him. He was the one to do my cleaning, which was refreshing, and not only was he super friendly and funny, but he also made sure that I knew exactly what he was doing, why he was doing it, and what I could do in the future to better my dental hygiene. He was EXTREMELY thorough and totally put me at ease, even though I typically hate the dentist. I'm so happy I found him!

I never have a long wait in his office, and all office staff members are friendly and accommodating. Dr. Berkowitz is easily the most intelligent, compassionate and humorous dentist that I have ever trusted to care for me and my family members. I am always confident that he has his patients' best interests at the forefront of his mind when providing care.
