He completed medical school at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and completed his residency in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, VA. After serving an additional year as Pediatrics Chief Resident, he came to Chicago for fellowship in Allergy/Immunology at Children's Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Donnell started working in private practice in Chicago in 2005 and lives in Chicago with his family.
