I grew up in a small town in Alaska where I developed a love for the outdoors, the mountains and cold winter nights, which eventually brought me to settle in the Pacific Northwest. I completed my undergraduate education at Lewis and Clark College and then spent several years doing research in molecular biology before starting my medical training at Stanford University Medical School. While at Stanford I worked with a developmental pediatrician to develop and run a study looking at the benefits of myofacial manipulation (a type of deep tissue massage) for children with spastic cerebral palsy. While I am no longer involved in the research, I continue to have an interest in working with both children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities.
After medical school, I was thrilled to be able to return to Portland for my residency training and am now happily settled here with my husband, two cats, four chickens, and a young daughter. In my free time I enjoy playing volleyball and soccer, hiking and camping with my family, and cooking for and with friends. I also enjoy planning and working on our slow DIY home remodel, getting my hands dirty digging in the garden, and sewing and knitting various things for home and family.
