More about Dr. Amir Ahuja, MD
Dr. Ahuja is a dedicated Psychiatrist who is passionate about his patients. He is interested in helping all people obtain balance in their lives. He wants to work with patients to reduce their anxieties, mood struggles, relationship troubles, and other impairments in order to maximize their potential in life. This work is both about treating mental illness and about removing barriers for people in achieving their dreams.
Dr. Ahuja is from New Jersey and studied in New York and Philadelphia before heading to Los Angeles. He has worked extensively in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (working under one of the past Presidents of the National Association for CBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy (through a 2-year course at the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia). He has a lot of experience with a variety of conditions, given the high volume of patients he oversees at the LA LGBT Center. This includes everything from impulse control and ADHD to severe schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder. Because of this, he is comfortable with a wider variety of conditions and a wide variety of treatment modalities.
Clearly, a passion of Dr. Ahuja's is the LGBTQ community. As a member of this community himself, he is driven to make sure LGBTQ patients and providers are treated fairly and respectfully, and that health disparities are eliminated. He is a leading voice in the LGBTQ Mental Health Community and has published many papers on LGBTQ mental health.
Currently, Dr. Ahuja is writing a book about LGBTQ Intimate Partner Violence, which will be out next year. Finally, the next phase of Dr. Ahuja's work will largely be focused on Connection. He will soon begin the process of writing his next book on how we can all improve the connections in our lives.
