Denise “Amy” West is a nationally board-certified physician assistant and native of Wichita, KS. Her undergraduate studies were obtained at Friends University in Wichita, KS, for which she graduated “With Honors” with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology (Minor in Chemistry). While at Friends University, she received scholarship as a classically-trained violinist to perform in their orchestra. She then attended Wichita State University Physician Assistant Program (with her husband, Travis) graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2001.
After graduation, Amy and her husband moved to southwest Kansas where they provided care in rural Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, in-patient hospital and nursing home care until 2004.
As Amy’s husband is a native of rural southeast Kansas, they moved closer to his hometown in 2005 to raise their family. There, she assisted in the start-up of a dermatology practice to provide dermatologic care in rural southeast Kansas (where she continued providing dermatologic care for well over a decade).
Amy’s passion is medical dermatology, but she is excited to enhance her expertise in cosmetic/surgical dermatology (as there was only a small need for this in rural Kansas).
Her hobbies include spending time with her family, spoiling her furry babies, and traveling. In fact, it was their annual family vacations to Carlsbad, California, where they realized California offered the lifestyle and opportunities that their growing family desired.
Amy is excited for the opportunity and privilege to bring her expertise of quality dermatologic care to the Encinitas and Vista communities.
