Dr. Andrew Terrono, MD

Hand Surgeon, Orthopedic Surgeon

Professional statement

At The Hand Center at BSSC our philosophy is to have individualized patient-centric care. We will make the visit as pleasant and efficient as possible. The goal of a visit is "Happy Hands". Onsite advanced imaging can be available the same day as the appointment, if it is appropriate, to better serve you. I am a board certified Orthopaedist, I have completed a hand fellowship and have a certificate of added qualifications in Hand Surgery. My practice is limited to problems of the hand, wrist, forearm, and some elbow problems. Please check with the office if it is an elbow problem. This includes surgery for arthritis, tendon, nerve and bone problems. I am an expert in arthritis surgery and nerve decompression as well as in minimally invasive hand and wrist surgery. This includes arthroscopy, needle aponeurotomy and collagenease injection for Dupuytren's contracture. Sports and occupational injuries are my specialty. I am Chief of Hand Surgery at the New England Baptist Hospital and Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tufts University. I am co-director of the Tufts University combined hand Fellowship and have trained over 50 hand surgeons. I have participated in many conferences and lectures and written on many subjects regarding Hand Surgery. I was a varsity football player in college and I am very interested in sports injuries and maximizing function. I have taken care of professional, college and high school athletes. I treat all patients with the same principles. I look forward to helping you with your upper extremity.

Didn't ask me any personal questions about my condition or what really mattered to me as a patient for outcome. Felt very much like a robot could have done the examination.

Dr. Terrono was thorough yet didn't "over-treat". I had two visits to have him look at a finger injury I sustained in a football game. After two visits (both of which included x-rays) he concluded that physical therapy was my best next step and recommended several other physicians.

I did not feel he cared about me. I was surprised because he seemed to have great ratings and that's why I chose Dr. Terrono. He did not introduce himself which surprised me. I wasn't able to finish what I wassaying before he would interrupt me. Will not be going back nor would I ever recommend him. End of the appointment, he told me I could take Ibuprofen and that would help relieve the pain- so he didn't bother to read the information I spent time filling out. THAT, and doing nothing was what I wrote helps the pain.

Dr. Terrono was very pleasant and thorough when examining my hands. He gave me information to read in between seeing him and returning after my xrays. I don't know if the pamphlets were meant to provide information regarding what I shoulddo to help the pain/swelling now (until I decide to have surgery), but Dr. Terrono didn't talk about that and I forgot to ask. He also mentioned a splint that could be made to support my finger during the first part of the appt, but that was not brought up again when I returned from my xrays. I will definitely use the hospital email system to follow up with these things.

The wait was terrible and the staff was not that friendly. I felt like Dr. Terrono didn't even take the time to hear what my problem was. After a quick examination he is pawning me off to another doctor in hispractice. When I asked what my next steps were he said I don't know, ask the other doctor. Rude.

I saw Dr. Terrono for a second opinion on a hand surgery I had by another office, which resulted in allot of complicaitons. Dr. Terrono was excellent, he met with me and reviewed my medical history, completed a thorough examination ofmy hand and spent allot of time with me explaining what happened and options on how to move forward. He had a very good personality and I felt comfortable asking him questions. He answered all my questions and clarified anything I did not understand.
