He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Angelo State University, earning a most valuable officer award in the Association of Mexican American Students. He then went on to earn his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Texas at Houston Medical School, and completed his residency training at the prestigious Family Practice program at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he met Dr. Cheng. Dr. Salazar has been trained to see patients in all age groups.
