Dr. Sommerhalder is a Texas-native, growing up in the North Texas suburbs of Dallas. She attended the University of Texas at Dallas where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology before embarking on the exciting journey of medical school at Ross University School of Medicine on the Caribbean island of Dominica. Dr. Sommerhalder finished her training in New York City before finally making her way back south to complete her residency in Family Medicine at Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
While practicing full-spectrum Family Medicine in Shreveport, Dr. Sommerhalder treated patients in clinic, hospital, and urgent care settings. It was there that she realized the significant limitations that traditional fee-for-service models placed on the time and care she could provide her patients. After learning about the Direct Primary Care model at a national conference, Dr. Sommerhalder knew this was the best way to provide the in-depth, personalized care she felt her patients deserved. She enjoys both teaching and learning from her patients, helping them to take interest and ownership of their own health. Dr. Sommerhalder believes the patient-physician relationship is the cornerstone of primary care and the development of long-lasting relationships is one of her favorite part.
