I was a bit leery about seeing a new psychiatrist after a bad experience with my previous one, but Dr. Hamzavi has been amazing. Right away she did her best to try to figure out the problem and get as much information possible. She really put in the time and effort to make sure the previous diagnosis was correct (it wasn't) and took my personal opinion and situation into consideration. When she informed me of what she believed to be the problem she made sure I knew what it was and also suggested I do some research on my own to make sure it was the correct diagnosis. She explained all of the possible side effects of the medication I received and also made sure I was using other methods to maintain my health by being in therapy, eating healthy and exercising. In addition, she had me come back pretty often to check up on how well my meds worked.
If you want someone who really cares, is willing to put effort into finding the best method of treatment and isn't just going to toss random scripts at you, then Hamzavi is great choice!
**only issue i've had is sometimes scheduling is a bit difficult, but they'll always try to find a spot to fit you in you may however be in the waiting room a bit long.

I thought Dr. Hamzavi was truly excellent. She is compassionate and really made me feel at ease. She was very thorough and asked the appropriate amount of questions before rushing to make a diagnosis or prescribe medication. Highly recommend her.

Dr. Asra Hamzavi is the founder of Hamzavi Psychiatry and Wellness PLLC in Bloomfield Hills. She is a native of Michigan and a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Hamzavi received her Bachelors degree in biopsychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Masters degree at Wayne State University, medical degree from Michigan State University, and her internship at Providence Hospital, Southfield. After taking several years off to raise her growing family, she completed her residency in General Psychiatry at Henry Ford Hospital where she first lectured on the impact of social media on the self and relationships. Dr. Hamzavi continues to take a special interest in this topic and has lectured in community settings on this as well as other mental health issues.
Dr. Hamzavi is passionate about increasing awareness of the mind-body-spirit connection when diagnosing and treating patients. She dedicates time to educating her patients about wellness, not just disease states, and works closely with family, therapists, and primary care doctors when appropriate. She also provides genetic testing to tailor medication selection to her patients’ own genetic profile. Her office is a warm and welcoming environment with staff who are equally passionate about providing complete care.
Dr. Jennifer Bak, PhD, LMFT also sees patients at Hamzavi Psychiatry and Wellness Center PLLC. She does therapy with individuals, couples, and families and regularly collaborates with Dr. Hamzavi to provide comprehensive care that produces lasting change. Dr. Hamzavi also accepts patients with outside therapists.

Dr. Hamzavi is an excellent physician from my first impression. She's alert as well as responsive. When speaking, she listens carefully and in general seems like she wants the best for her patients. I'm really looking forward to my follow up, and to continue seeing her.

Dr. Hamzavi is very helpful in helping me identify the problems I'm having and then being able to figure out the proper treatment according to my needs & my prior medical history. She is very thorough in educating me about different treatment methods and which ones to consider, and doesn't show an biases towards certain ones (thus ensuring I get the best possible treatment tailored to me).

The office is beautiful and clean, and the office staff were very friendly! I didn't have to wait long at all to be seen. Dr. Hamzavi is very professional and caring. She took the time to really explain her thought process to me, which I appreciated. She also made sure that I fully understood the risks of certain medications, and talked through my discomfort of some of the side effects that I had heard about. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hamzavi to anyone!

Dr. Hamzavi is extremely attentive. In addition to being very informative in person she'll also take the time to explain any questions you might have over the phone as well. She goes above and beyond to see that your mental health improves. I would highly recommend.
