Following my residency approximately 20 years ago, I established a family practice office in a rural blue-collar town where a significant population of furniture workers resided. My role involved caring for numerous patients afflicted with chronic pain. This experience and expertise led me to recognize chronic pain as the most under-treated and mismanaged diagnosis in the United States. I underwent training in one of the most esteemed family medicine residencies, emphasizing holistic care, which is crucial for achieving optimal patient outcomes. This training instilled in me the importance of addressing patients’ pain, as it is the primary reason they seek medical attention. Additionally, my osteopathic background allows me to view patients as holistic individuals, adopting an approach that encompasses their entire well-being. Pain is one of the common reasons for seeking medical attention. There are various types of pain but the underlying cause of most patient complaints is pain. Examples include back pain, chest pain, coughing, fractures, trauma, stomach pain, headaches and others. However, not all pain necessitates opioid use. Many cases can be effectively managed with non-opioid modalities and other types of treatments. There is pain such as: chronic non-malignant pain, cancer and palliative care that might require a longer-term use of opioid and other modalities to manage pain. Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to treating, enhancing and or improving the functional capabilities of patients suffering from chronic pain.
