Getting to know Barbara Kenerson

Barbara Kenerson, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with experience supporting adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and mood-related concerns. Her clinical background includes experience working within major academic and medical systems, including Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai, where she supported patients with complex mental-health needs across diverse settings. Barbara partners with clients to create thoughtful, individualized treatment plans that may include education, supportive therapy, and evidence-based psychiatric care when appropriate. She is known for her calm, collaborative style and her focus on helping clients feel heard, supported, and confident in their care. My goal is to make mental health care feel supportive, clear, and easy to navigate. During our first visit, we’ll take time to understand your history, concerns, and goals so we can decide on next steps that feel right for you. I use a collaborative, evidence-based approach and tailor care to each individual — recognizing that no two people have the same needs. Sessions are focused, respectful, and designed to help you build clarity, emotional stability, and confidence over time. Many clients describe my style as warm, thoughtful, and structured, with an emphasis on steady progress rather than quick fixes.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal is to make your mental-health care experience supportive, structured, and easy to navigate. During our first visit, we’ll review your history, explore your goals, and design a personalized treatment plan that fits your lifestyle. Together, we’ll use a collaborative, evidence-based approach that may include psychiatric medications. My sessions focus on helping you achieve emotional stability, improved concentration, and a greater sense of calm and balance in everyday life. Patients often describe my style as warm, clear, and empowering. I believe every person deserves care that promotes confidence and long-term well-being. You can expect a safe, judgment-free environment where we focus on consistent progress, emotional clarity, and meaningful results. Let’s work together to reduce anxiety, lift mood, and strengthen your sense of purpose—so you can live with renewed energy, focus, and peace of mind.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Reaching out for mental health support can feel overwhelming, and my goal is to make the process feel as straightforward and supportive as possible. Care typically begins with an initial evaluation focused on understanding your symptoms, history, and priorities. From there, we’ll collaborate on a care plan that may include follow-up visits, supportive strategies, and — when appropriate — psychiatric treatment options. Appointments are structured and goal-oriented, while still allowing space for questions, discussion, and adjustment over time. My focus is on helping you feel supported, informed, and confident as we move forward together.

Extremely disorganized. They changed the time three times. 6pm to 8pm to 7pm. Then they said they will send me a Zoom link once I complete my paper. I completed the paperwork around 2pm and never received any confirmation or a link to the meeting. 7pm rolls in and still nothing. They finally sent a link 10mins after the meeting was supposed to start. There is something seriously wrong with their scheduling process and system. I will not be booking any appointments with this doctor.

Barbara is an amazing provider, and I would recommend her to anyone dealing with anxiety. She is thorough with her assessments and attentively listens to all of my concerns. I felt included in the development of my treatment plan.
Barbara was amazing. I felt like she really listened and asked meaningful questions to get a full picture of my mental health and past traumas before deciding on a plan for my mental health management. I wasn’t rushed, and we went into detail about my struggles and which medication or therapies were right for me. She was also super friendly and kind. 100% recommend
Barbara was great, you could tell she cared about how I was feeling. We spent almost an hour together, which is more than any other provider has done with me in the past. 10/10 recommend
By far, she is the best provider I’ve dealt with in my decade-and-a-half-long mental health journey. She is very understanding and very knowledgeable. She truly understands the role medication plays in the journey and isn’t pushing anything onto you or being one-dimensional like most psychiatrists in my experience. She really understands her role as your resource and is incredibly kind and patient. I couldn’t Recommend her more.
I went to Barbara after my previous psychiatrist disappeared on me. Barbara was a great listener and very attentive. I'm clear on my treatment plan and feel confident moving forward.
Literally the best psychiatrist I have ever had. I finally feel properly diagnosed and I'm able to get things done for the first time in forever. I'm so grateful for finding Barbara!

Barbara is wonderful for my mental health progress. She explains, she understands, she encourages, and she challenges me to work toward getting better.
Barbara is the first psychiatry professional that I’ve spoken to that I feel completely comfortable talking to. As a transgender person, it’s difficult to find someone who can understand the nuances of my experiences but with Stacey it’s no problem. She’s funny and shows real care for her patient.

Barbara is awesome. She is very knowledgeable and kind. she addresses any concerns I have clearly, and I always look forward to seeing her.
Barbara became the first person I opened up to other than my former childhood therapist. She has made me feel incredibly comfortable and supported throughout our sessions. I was initially scared but after our initial session I felt incredibly comfortable sharing my emotions and experiences with her.
