As a urologist, Dr. Choi is highly trained to treat disorders of the male and female urinary tract (bladder, ureter, kidney, and urethra) and the male reproductive system. Urology is classified as a surgical subspecialty, but since a wide variety of clinical problems are encountered when treating urological conditions, knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and other specialties is required.
Dr. Choi is certified by the American Board of Urology. He has an extensive basic and clinical research experience and has published in leading medical journals in areas of a novel therapeutic research such as gene therapy. His articles in inguinal hernia repair and simultaneous inguinal hernia repair during radical retropubic prostatectomy have been highlighted in recent urologic journals. He has given presentations in topics including benign prostatic hyperplasia and urinary retention, minimally invasive incontinence surgery in female, pelvic prolapse and incontinence surgery in female, testicular cancer and male factor infertility. His current clinical interests and expertise are in minimally invasive endoscopic treatments of renal stones and benign prostatic hyperplasia, laparoscopic surgery in urologic diseases, out-patient surgery for female stress incontinence, and out-patient no-scalpel vasectomy.
He has numerous achievements and awards including The New York Academy of Medicine Fellow Research Competition, Ferdinand C. Valentine Essay Contest of New York Urology Section, and the 35th Annual Urology Chief Residents Meeting. He is also a member of the following medical associations and societies:
