She graduated from SUNY State College of Optometry where she earned a dual degree of Doctorate of Optometry and Master in Science in Vision Science, graduating with honors (Beta Sigma Kappa) from both programs. Her externship training specialization involved a wide array of ocular diseases. She also completed internship training in hard-to-fit specialty contact lenses. She has experience fitting a wide variety of such lenses including sclerals, hybrids, and gas permeable lenses. Dr. Summers is a member of the American Optometric Association, the New York State Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. Summers is passionate about health care. She has served as the president of the SUNY Student Chapter of the American Public Health Association (APHA). Her graduate research work included hypertension screening.
