Dr. Cara Barber, M.D., M.P.H., joins Riverchase Dermatology, bringing a dedicated patient-centered approach to her practice. Dr. Barber has a comprehensive background in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, making her well-equipped to address a wide range of dermatological concerns with precision and care.
Dr. Barber completed her undergraduate and medical education at Michigan State University. She then pursued her internship at the University of California, San Diego, followed by a residency at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. This extensive training has provided her with a broad skill set, enabling her to deliver high-quality care tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
Passionate about all aspects of dermatology, Dr. Barber specializes in medical dermatology, surgical dermatology, and cosmetic dermatology. She enjoys working with patients of various ages and backgrounds to enhance their skin health and achieve their cosmetic goals. While she has a particular love for cosmetic dermatology, her commitment to personalized and effective care stems from her belief in treating the whole patient, ensuring that each treatment plan is customized to the individual’s needs.
Originally from West Michigan, Dr. Barber is excited to bring her expertise to Miami. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her friends and family, cooking, dancing, and relaxing by the beach. She shares her life with Nala, a sweet Siberian husky who is her constant companion. Dermatology holds a special place in Dr. Barber’s heart, and she values the long-term relationships she forms with her patients, aiming to provide high-quality care that truly meets their needs.

Dr Barber was very attentive and asked all the right questions. She was able to diagnose me within 5 secs when another dermatologist I went to see was not able to tell me what I had and wasn’t helpful/did not seem to know what he was doing. I highly recommend her

Literally staff took a picture using iPad during appt and took some history, and then wait 45 minutes for MD, and she barely did any medical intervening and no examination, jumped to a treatment.

It was very nice. Since the valet parking... everything great. The recepcionists very kind. And the doctor was really good. She's not hispanic, but she learned Spanish so she can have better communication with hispanic patients here in Miami, I found that very clever and human.

I found the overall experience underwhelming. The front desk staff lacked warmth, greeting me with indifferent expressions. Although the wait time was short, the appointment felt rushed. I came for a screening and consultation expecting guidance, recommendations, or at least a dialogue. Instead, I had to ask all the questions, and the responses were brief and abrupt. It felt like I was being rushed out, not cared for. The doctor spent about 15 minutes with me, offered no real counseling, and didn’t explain much unless prompted. There was no discussion about skin care, helpful product suggestions, or explanations of my concerns. I left feeling dismissed and disappointed. Courtesy, compassion, and even a bit of empathy should be standard in any medical visit. Based on this experience, I would not return. I value providers who take the time to listen, communicate clearly, and offer care that feels personal, thoughtful, and respectful of the patient’s time and needs.

I visited this dermatologist because I had a rash with small red dots on my hands. The doctor decided to freeze them using what I believe was either hydrogen or nitrogen, but instead of helping, the procedure actually made things worse. The spots became more irritated and painful after the treatment.
I also didn’t feel properly listened to or cared for during the consultation. The experience left me feeling very disappointed, and I don’t feel that I received the professional or attentive care I was expecting. I would not recommend this clinic based on my experience.

Meeting with Dr. Barber was a nice experience. I guess my expectation of what would happen wasn’t met in the sense that I expected a skin analysis not just talking to an assistant about my issues and then being prescribed drugs based on what i said. This was my first experience with a dermatologist and it was just subpar. I thought there would be more feedback regarding my skin outside of me sitting in an office for 30 minutes, saying i have acne and then getting prescribed topical medication and then being charged for the visit as well as the drug itself. Granted speaking with the employees in the office, everyone was nice and it’s an amazing atmosphere. Maybe they address more complex situations differently as opposed to someone who comes in for preventative care.
