Cara Shepherd is a board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in Dermatology. Her postgraduate work was completed in the Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant Program at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, graduating in 2005.
She has been practicing in Dermatology since 2005, and she is especially skilled in performing skin cancer screenings/complete skin exams, skin biopsies, excisions, Mohs closures, and cosmetic procedures. She diagnoses and treats a wide range of common skin diseases and conditions, including psoriasis, acne, eczema, rosacea, and warts.
Cara has extensive experience in medical research in Dermatology. She has played an important role as a sub-investigator in numerous clinical trials, traveling throughout the country to participate in the most up-to-date research in the field.
She has been active in the community as an advocate for skin cancer awareness by volunteering at the 9News Health Fair performing skin cancer screenings, and participating in the Summer Solstice Miles to Fight Melanoma walk. In 2012, Cara was invited by Mensa as a guest speaker to discuss the importance of skin cancer screening and its impact on the early detection/prevention of skin cancer. She has also been a preceptor to many Physician Assistant students from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Cara’s memberships include the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Colorado Society of Dermatology Professionals, and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. She is also active in the Colorado Dermatologic Society and the American Academy of Dermatology.
Cara is originally from Chicago, and she grew up in upstate New York. In her spare time, the married mother of two sons enjoys family time, yoga, and skiing.
