Dr. Carlos R. Carretero completed his medical training with New York Medical College, after attending to the Universidad Autonoma of Guadalajara, Mexico. It was a great learning experience, combining the training from Mexico and completing my last year of medical in New York City in 2001, “the contrast of both settings gave me a broader perspective in medicine, and understanding of cultural diversity, and empathy to my patients”.
After medical school he completed his residency in internal medicine with the Ponce School of Medicine, and started as a medical consultant with the Mayaguez Advance Radiotherapy Group, and opened his private medical practice providing care to the patients of the west coast of Puerto Rico. Dr. Carretero is board certified in Internal Medicine since 2005 and recertified in 2015. He relocated to San Antonio in January 2014, practicing at the Nix Medical Center until 2019. He is a dedicated Internal Medicine Physician with a proven track record of accurately diagnosing patients and providing successful treatments. He is fluent in English and Spanish.“I believe that the role of the internist is not just diagnosing and treating, but to orchestrate their medical priorities, especially with patients with multiple conditions. I have been in San Antonio for almost 6 years and love its people, their warmth, and look forward to continue on their care and have a positive impact on the community”.

Felt he did not believe or understand my ailments. Did not disclose any info for next steps or treatment, what happens next. He reviewed my current meds asked which ones I needed refills. Then proceeded to tell me told the ones he would not prescribe and referred me to another specialist. When I asked about my current ailments and how they are affecting several aspects including my career. He did not seem interested or concerned even though several of my symptoms are alarming given the short period of time in which they started and now have progressed rapidly. While his office staff all were very polite, friendly and helpful as well as no wait time. I would not recommend and definitely will not return for any follow up visits.

since i’ve moved to texas i haven’t been able to find a doctor that takes me seriously or does much more than prescribing medication rather than treating the issues.
at this office i wasn’t dismissed and i was listened to, and treated accordingly. he was very friendly, un-intimidating, and easy to converse with.
i already feel very comfortable and confident with this doctor.
the staff was the cherry on top, very friendly, not rushed or treated like a chore.

Dr. Carretero is LITERALLY the sweetest and funniest medical professional I've encountered in a long time. My father worked at a hospital when he was still alive. So, I've learned how important it is to have incredible bed side manner from him. Dr. Carretero def has that! He made me feel comfortable and talked to me like I was his friend. He makes an effort to make conversation and get to know you and your family medical history. He really takes great care of his patient's needs and makes an effort to try and seek the best options for treatment.

The staff was amazing I had a very little wait time and I didn’t feel like Dr.Carretero was rushing my time despite me having a late appointment with him. He genuinely seemed to care about my concerns and had open ended conversations with me. I had a great first time experience.

Really great experience and the doctor is super friendly and helpful. However, the wait time in the office was about 35 min, and then the wait time in the back room was about 25 min. It was a busy day there, but those wait times can be difficult to manage if you have other things to take care of in the day.
Other than that, I enjoyed the experience and will be back again!
