I have been proudly practicing psychiatry for the past 25 years with dedication and gratitude. I trained at NYU Medical Center/Bellevue where I learned how challenging and rewarding the profession can be. I worked in a comprehensive team including various disciplines in which collaboration and research were fostered. I have continued this tradition in my practice.
I strive to provide excellent, compassionate, caring medical care to the complex treatment of mental health and the human condition. I make every attempt to individualize care and get to the root of the presenting problem working in close collaboration with the client, the family, therapist and other medical providers.
I have been in private practice since 1992. My private practice integrates psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and holistic approaches. I completed my residency program at NYU/Bellevue in 1992 and remained at Bellevue Hospital in many different capacities until 2005. I became the Director of the Bellevue Psychiatric Walk-In clinic and later became the Acting Director of the Bellevue Psychiatric Ambulatory Services. I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Through 2005 I was an Assistant Clinical Professor at NYU where I supervised residents. In addition to my private practice, I work part-time at St. Mark’s Institute for Mental Health providing psychopharmacology care to an indigent population. I am originally from Puerto Rico and am fluent in Spanish and English. In 2008, I helped establish a non-profit organization, the Al D. Rodriguez Liver Foundation, in the name of my closest friend who died of liver cancer as a result of chronic hepatitis.

My experience with Dr. Ortiz was excellent. From the first visit I felt welcomed, he was very thorough and helped me see myself from and ther perspective. He understood my situations, gave me options and most of all gave me hope. I recommend Dr. Ortiz to everyone seeking real and honest treatment.

Dr. Ortiz is excellent! He is extremely considerate and helpful and has provided me with excellent support and solutions to better cope with my problems. In addition, he is very knowledgable about the medications and he is the first doctor that has helped me find what works best with my body. I finally feel like the real me again. Lastly, Dr. Ortiz is patient and very caring with me at all of my visits and is always on-time and makes me feel completely at home. I would highly
