If you're looking for a real psychiatrist to actually better your mental health, stay away. Here is a very, very detailed review of my experience from pre to post appointment. Pre-Appointment: 1. Different email - The emails from the office appeared to be from an Ngozi Okudoh, which is not the name listed. Very, very confusing. 2. Mistyping my information - I submitted required information, but when I tried to log into the patient portal, I was unable to do so. I emailed her, and it was still not sorted out come my appointment time. When my appointment was supposed to "start," she discovered she had mistyped my birthday into the system, causing the error. I then had to take 15 minutes to fill out all the paperwork, which obviously left her no room to read prior to our meeting. This is essential, but I hoped for the best. Appointment itself: 1. Late - Roughly 15-20 minutes late with the paperwork delay, which was annoying, but ok. 2. Victim blaming/lack of empathy - I proceeded to explain why I was coming back to revisit medication. First of all, she completely downplayed a recent traumatic experience saying that I "learned my lesson" from the experience (read: victim blaming/general lack of empathy). This was infuriating, and I felt invalidated. 3. Answering phone in middle of appointment, possible HIPAA violation - She answered the phone twice in the middle of our appointment, and she did not even mute herself. The first time was very quick "call you back," but the second one I sat there in silence watching her break HIPAA policy (should have recorded but was so confused I didn't think to) as she discussed scheduling an appointment with another patient. I informed her that I expect her to be present for my appointment and to not take calls. 4. Asked the same questions on the form, but over the phone so it was very confusing and a real waste of time. 5. Didn't respect my time - As the appointment end time grew closer, I informed her of the hard stop at the scheduled time. She then asked "and where do you have to be?" in a condescending voice. I told her that I actually work during the day, too, and that I carved out an hour for her. 6. Prescribing benzos (highly addicting) unnecessarily - The kicker, though, is that she prescribed me benzos. After one appointment?? I am aware of my anxiety, but in no way, shape, or form do I experience anxiety attacks to the point that those highly addictive drugs would be required. I never filled the prescription, and I cancelled my next appointment. The only positive: I explained to her medication that had worked in the past, and she decided to prescribe a low dose of the same again. This was helpful, but also a primary purpose of my visit was to discuss other options as my mental health has shifted over the years. The low dose of this medication has helped in recent weeks. Post-appointment/cancellation of next appointment: On the day that would've been my next appointment, I received a call from her. I never want to speak to her again in my life, but I followed up via email to ensure that she had received the cancellation notice. She said yes, but that she wanted to check in. I appreciated the due diligence slightly, but I politely told her that I didn't think we were a good match. Proceed with caution/not at all.
