Dr. Herring received her A.B. degree in psychology from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio in 1968. She then worked at Educational Testing Service as a statistician before attending medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania where she received the prize in psychiatry in 1975. She did her residency in psychiatry at the Medical College of PA and was Chief Resident. She was appointed to an academic position at Jefferson Medical College as an associate director of Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry and also served as Director of the Headache Clinic. Dr. Herring continues as a volunteer, teaching and supervising residents, and serving on the Admissions Committee. She also supervises residents at Drexel Medical School. Dr. Herring is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology where she serves as a Senior Examiner of the Oral Exam.
She has a subspecialty in Pain Management and is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Herring has maintained a private practice in Bryn Mawr, PA since 1990. She believes that each patient is unique and offers a comprehensive approach to treatment. Appreciating that each patient responds differently to treatment, she tailors his/her care based on a variety of options.
. Consequently, her multi modal approach promotes a healthy lifestyle incorporating psychotherapy, TMS therapy and pain management. Dr Herring is one of the first psychiatrists in this area to offer TMS Therapy a cutting edge approach to treatment-resistant depression which doesn't involve medication.
