Patient safety and well-being are my top priorities. Brain and spine conditions can be stressful and confusing for patients and their loved ones. My goal is to provide information and guidance so that patients feel confident in making decisions. I am a neurosurgeon who believes that, in most cases, surgery should be reserved as a last resort should all other non-operative measures prove ineffective. I take pride in listening to my patients and in being thorough. I believe that what patients say and show can be more meaningful than any lab result or imaging study. The practice of neurosurgery is both a science and an art and so I take everything into consideration. I simply want the best possible outcome for my patients, and to that end, I will always treat them as if they were my own family.
Christopher A. Sy, MD is a neurosurgeon who specializes in treating spinal conditions. Dr. Sy was born and raised in San Diego, CA. His father was a US Navy corpsman and his mother worked as an accountant – both were immigrants from the Philippines. After high school, Dr. Sy completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA where he earned a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience. He then pursued a graduate degree at the Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, MA where he earned a master’s degree in medical sciences. From there, he attended medical school at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society as well as the Gold Humanism Honor Society. After earning his medical degree he completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Sy then completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He is currently seeing and treating patients at the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
