Dr. Cory Nelson is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who joins Spine & Orthopedic Specialists with an expertise in orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Nelson specializes in the non-operative and operative management of injuries in youth and adult patients of all skill levels from recreational to professional athletes. He emphasizes not only surgical treatment, but also the importance of injury prevention and rehabilitations. Dr. Nelson has experience in the latest minimally invasive, arthroscopic techniques for the shoulder, knee, and elbow including treatment of rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations, labral tears, and knee ACL reconstructions. He also performs joint preserving and reconstructive procedures in the shoulder and elbow.
Dr. Nelson completed an additional year of advanced training at the world-renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship in Los Angeles, CA. While at Kerlan-Jobe, he participated in both the sideline and surgical management of professional athletes from the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, LA Kings, and Anaheim Ducks. Dr. Nelson also provided on-field coverage for several high school and collegiate football teams, including USC, Fullerton College, and Stony Brook University. He is currently the orthopedic consultant for Fountain Hills High School School District.
Dr. Nelson was raised in Phoenix and is a graduate of Paradise Valley/North Canyon High School. Although his education and training took him outside of Arizona, he considers The Valley to be home. In his free time, he enjoys playing volleyball, softball, and soccer. He has also volunteered his time for international Orthopedic Surgery missions, most recently to Honduras, and enjoys traveling.

Don't expect the doctor to spend time helping you. Spent less than 5 minutes with me...recommended Advil and Physical Therapy. He is clearly not a sports doctor!
