He explained very clearly what he suspected the cause could be (it seems to be tendonitis) and recommended a cortisone shot. The other option was scheduling a scan, which would most likely lead to doing a cortisone shot anyway.
We skipped the middle part and did the shot. Already less than 12 hours later my wrist feels like it's getting better. The office will follow up in 3 weeks to make sure things are heading in the right direction.

About Dr. Michael Madden
Michael Orion Madden, DO, MA is a board certified, dual fellowship trained orthopedic hand surgeon. Originally from northern Wisconsin, Dr. Madden earned an academic scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in chemistry. He then went on to earn a Master’s of Arts in biomedical sciences from Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ.
Dr. Madden earned his medical degree from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi honors fraternity. After medical school, Dr. Madden completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where he was voted South Florida resident of the year. He then went on to complete his fellowship in Hand/Microsurgery at the University of Minnesota where he was trained extensively on minimally invasive procedures as well as WALANT (wide awake local anesthetic no tourniquet) surgery of the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow. Dr. Madden then completed an additional fellowship in regenerative medicine from the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, specializing in ultrasound and fluoroscopic guided stem cell injections.
Dr. Madden lives in Phoenix with his wife, Nichelle, who works as a Mohs Surgeon, and his two children. He enjoys cooking, hiking, mountain biking, collecting sneakers, and spending time with his family.

It was a long, slow drive to get to the appointment. Once there, they found the docs I completed on ZocDoc and the consultation and procedures were performed right away. I am an ophthalmologist, and I have visited with Dr. Madden for both myself, friends, and family members, but also for patients I need to get in for care with hand and wrist problems. What I especially like is that he is personable, very skilled and competent, but that he cares. Caring about the patient as a human being but also that they achieve a superior outcome is essential to great care in any specialty, and unfortunately it is lacking in so many physicians. Dr. Madden will spend that necessary time with each patient, he will communicate clearly so patients and their families understand the process, and then successfully handle the problems. Dr. Madden and his team are so organized and cheerful. My sugeries, I've had 3 fingers corrected, have all been super successful. They are very thorough with instructions for post care! I would recommend Dr. Madden "hands up". ??

I went in for a trigger finger on my right pointer finger and Dr. Madden treated the finger with surgery. He and his staff are friendly, professional and they care about you. I will definitely return again for any other hand problems I may have in the future. I highly recommend Phoenix Hand.

Dr. Madden and his staff are probably the most caring and capable providers I've ever dealt with!!!!
Dr. Madden instantly makes his patient (me) feel like they're the most important person in the room. It's all about the confidence which with he approaches your concern.
He not impatient. He listens. He presents options. He cares.
He is great during the surgery. Local anesthetics allow you to be aware throughout the procedure.
I highly recommend this practice. Should I need any hand surgery in the future, he's my first call.

The doctor and staff at Phoenix Hand are professional and patient friendly. Everything was explained to me in great detail by Dr. Madden. He treated my trigger finger and de quervain’s tenosynovitis both of which are much improved, since my visit. I highly recommend this office as you will receive great care!

I have had problems with my fingers and in attempt to get help I went to three different doctors. I ended up having Dr. Madden doing most of the injections and operations and he was by far the most competent, patient focused and caring of all. He gives you options and walk through all of them careful with you.
I highly recommend Dr. Madden and his great staff!!!
