Dr. Costa H. Sousou was originally born in Amman, Jordan, and came to the United States at age 7. He received his Bachelor of Science at Syracuse University and went on to St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies to obtain his Medical Degree. He did his Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Seton Hall in New Jersey. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of OBGYN and has been named a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG). He had practiced for 16 years in a private group in Northern New Jersey before becoming employed by the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
During his tenure at the Mayo Clinic Health System, he was chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as the chair of the Personnel Committee. His leadership resulted in a significant decline in the number of Primary Cesarean Sections that his hospital was recognized by the Joint Commission, and he created and presented a webinar on how he went about achieving this. He practiced in high-risk Obstetrics and performed numerous pelvic floor surgeries along with minimally invasive procedures as well as surgeries to control female stress urinary incontinence. Currently, he is working as a Locum Physician providing his expertise to different hospitals. He also started a podcast titled “A Guide to Better Women’s Health” where he provides his knowledge and expertise on different Obstetrics and Gynecological issues. He is the father of 5 adult children, one of them is a Resident in Emergency Room in New York City, and another is an assistant District Attorney in Manhattan. He loves to take long hikes and his way of relaxing is listening to music while he is cooking.
