Dr. Rigel is an artist. I had to have two excisions for an atypical mole on my forehead. There's no scar. I felt confident during the whole process and his nurse, Lisa, is so warm and comforting - the perfect best friend/mom combo. Wonderful office and beautiful people.

I went to Dr. Rigel because I wanted my annual dermatological examination. A prior visit in December to another practice was unsatisfactory because the doctor only spent one minute with me. There was no time to examine me, I was very satisfied with the examination given by Dr. Rigel.

Darrell S. Rigel, MD is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at New York University Medical Center. He is a graduate of MIT with a BS in Management Information Sciences, an MS (MBA) from the Sloan School of Management at MIT and received his MD degree from George Washington University. He attended Cornell University Medical Center for Internship in Internal Medicine and completed his training at NYU where he was Resident, Chief Resident, NIH Training Fellow and Dermatology Surgery Fellow. He is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and a Fellow and has been awarded Honorary Membership in the American Academy of Dermatology
His research is in the areas of risk factors and prognosis for malignant melanoma and other skin cancers and factors leading to aging of the skin. He is the author of numerous articles and abstracts in professional journals as well as lead editor of Cancer of the Skin, the major textbook in this field.
Dr. Rigel has testified before Congress regarding the effects of ozone depletion on skin cancer. He has made over 600 presentations at medical and governmental policy conferences worldwide and has chaired numerous national and international conferences and symposia. He often appears on National television including CNN, ABC, FOX, NBC and CBS and his research and opinions are regularly cited in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and many other national magazines and newspapers.
Dr. Rigel serves with many professional and charitable organizations related to his research interests. In 1999, he served as President of the American Academy of Dermatology and also served for 9 years as a Director of the American Board of Dermatology. He is also a Past President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Dermatological Association. He also serves as a Regional Chair of the MIT Educational Counselor program.
Dr. Rigel has also received numerous awards and honors including the American Cancer Society's National Honor Citation for Skin Cancer Programs and Presidential Citations from the American Academy of Dermatology and American Society for Dermatologic Surgery for public education programs in skin cancer. He serves as a consultant dermatologist for the New York Yankees.
Dr. Rigel specializes in skin cancer, sun damage and cosmetic dermatology related to aging problems of the skin and has patients nationally and worldwide referred to him to help them with their dermatology problems.

Seeing Dr. Rigel was a pleasant experience from start to finish. The entire office was very friendly and helpful, and I was brought to a room after only a couple of minutes of wait time.
As a slightly paranoid first-time patient, I asked Dr. Rigel a ton of questions. He was polite and thorough in answering all of them, putting me at ease and also informing me of ways to keep my skin healthy.

Dr. Rigel is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to explain everything until you are completely comfortable with your procedure or course of treatment. Lisa is also extremely knowledgeable and supportive. She reinforced everything Dr. Rigel explained to me and went the extra mile to make me comfortable before, during and after both of my procedures so far. I am thankful not to have too many other medical experiences to compare this to but I can tell you that I recommend these guys to everyone and could not be more satisfied with the level of care, office conditions and experience with support staff. These guys are on the right track and I feel extremely fortunate to be in their care.

I have been going to Dr. Rigel for more than 25 years. he is the consummate professional and I trust him completely. I have had several skin cancers of differing types and he is always thorough in exams and clear about what needs to be done. he treats all his patients with kindness and compassion and is available for consults when needed.

Dr Rigel is a very talented and knowledgeable diagnostician and doctor especially with skin cancer which is the reason I see him. Any skin issue I have or have had was diagnosed and treated with success.
He detected precancerous cells in an area smaller than a pencil eraser and mentioned 2 stitches needed, which turned out to be 7.
Due to my nervousness of the coming process I forgot to ask my questions which follow:
1. What type of precancerous cells were detected?
2. Was it possible to have them burned/frozen off?
3. Why so many stitches for so small an area?
4. Can I have a copy of the lab report?
At the end his nurse, Lisa gave me some supplies and verbal instructions, I do not remember what to do with the alcohol pads.
It would have benefited me, if when the nurse or doctor discussed post care that they give out a sheet with the post care instructions that include what to do if other issues occur that need answers before the next business day. It might be beneficial to other patients as well.
