Dr Mahony was quick to respond in getting me setup with an appointment and working with my hectic schedule to fit me in. I’m looking forward to continuing working with him (:

Dr. Mahoney was friendly and warm with a pleasant office. He was quieter than I expected (based on his description here—which made me think maybe he was going to be more interactive than your average therapist). Then again, it was just the first session, so perhaps more of a get-to-know-you evaluation. I certainly plan to return, so we'll see!

More about Dr. David Mahony, PhD

We all experience times in our lives when we have emotional difficulties, setbacks, or the feeling of being "stuck" in life. In my work with adults, I have noticed that all sorts of emotional, behavioral, relationship and career problems are our mind and body's way of telling us that something is wrong and needs to change. Are you experiencing any of these symptoms? Feeling overwhelmed, sadness, unmotivated, hopeless, nervousness, irritability, arguing, withdrawing in relationships, sleep problems, trouble concentrating, unhappy with your body/self, using drugs/alcohol to escape, eating problems or weight gain? Come work together with me in a warm, relaxed environment. I am an attentive listener, active participant, and focused on helping you feel better. I have years of treatment experience with anxiety disorders, depression, relationship problems, weight gain, life transitions/coaching (e.g., marriage, new baby, divorce, job loss, aging, career change, loss through death). Many patients complain prior therapists just listen and don't provide feedback. Not so with me. We both need each other to do the work, and therefore, both of us will be active participants in the treatment. Give me a chance to help you.

I guess he’s the kind of therapist who quietly sits there to listen. I mean like... he’s silent. Lots of long awkward pauses of just silence. I just don’t think he was the right therapist for me. I look for natural conversation with my therapists to feel more comfortable. Meh.

Dr. Mahony has helped me examine the way I treat myself. He helps me work on self-compassion & self-confidence. He challenges my negative voices and is helping me to develop more appreciative, positive ones. I am becoming more kind to myself with every visit.
Great! I feel excellent about our couples session today. A couple of breakthroughs occurred today! It's always a welcoming office to walk into.
