As usual, Dr. M was quick, efficient, and knowledgeable. He has my RA well under control with a minimum of meds. What more could a patient ask?

Dr. Makover did not seem to listen to my chief complaint. It was obvious I was in a great deal of pain and have been progressing over time. He ordered labs and x-rays. At my two week check-up he seemed to be in a hurry and I felt very unimportant. I was still in a considerable amount pain with no relief from the NSAIDS. But he seemed less than interested. He briefly looked over my lab results and x-ray results on his electronic device and never cared to discuss even a single result or explaining why some results may be what they are. Thankfully the results looked normal according to the doctor. So with no explanation given to me, I myself took the liberty of requesting all the results so I could see what looked "fine" for myself. I saw there are some out of normal range results. So I did call nurse and leave a message for Dr. Makover. The nurse called me back and told me the five words the doctor said to tell me, literally five words and not one answer to what I actually was asking. So I thanked the nurse and politely let her know I would be seeking care elsewhere. There is not one reason for any patient to ever settle if it feels wrong and dismissive. I do strongly feel it is unfortunate this doctor patient relationship did not work out, as it's always nice to continue with the first doctor you see, but unrealistic to expect that with every doctor. There is always another doctor out there, and the next doctor may be the one that can really help you. The issue of my consent worsening pain remains. Dr. Makeovers lack of interest in looking deeper into other possible causes has left me feeling unsettled and concerned for my health. The sooner a person receives the proper treatment the better, as that can make all the difference when dealing with certain diseases, and can be the difference between early intervention and an advanced condition, verses discovering an underlying condition much later when the disease has progressed much further effecting quality of life. I feel dismissed because my labs didn't show what he was originally looking for. But what about what he wasn't looking for? I am certainly not a doctor by any means, but anyone who is familiar with the medical industry will tell you that thinking outside the box is imparitive when treating patients, as medicine is never black and white. And my experience over the past decade with countless specialist such as cardiology, pulmonary, endocrinology, including long term hospitalizations in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit...has given me a lot of insight into the world of medicine. As well as my husbands profession in the medical industry. I have a child who has suffered medically and critically more than most ever will. Operation after operation, I expect the best for our child and will never accept anything less. Our child's critical conditions have put us in many serious medical crisis and in touch with numerous physicians across the country. I am not an expert nor ever would claim to be, but this is something I feel passionately about and feel strongly that every patient whether pediatric or adult, deserves to be taken care of by the doctors we trust. So when I encounter a doctor for my loved ones or myself that is not exlempatory, it's unacceptable, it's unacceptable for all patients. I certainly don't expect a busy doctor like Dr. Makover to spend hours with me during my appointment and dive into my chart as a top priority. But I believe my expectations are within reason when putting my care in someone else's hands, as well as my trust that he will provide me with the best care that all patients deserve. It's unfortunate as a patient that one has to advocate for themselves, but it's a reality that doctors can and do overlook things no matter what their experiences or how many years in practice, as every person is very different. Selecting a doctor is always a challenge for any patient, especially with no recommendation. Before making my choice I should have looked further into Dr. Makeovers patient satisfaction outside of this service, as there are unsatisfactory reviews elsewhere. Reading further and learning that "below national average" is a clear indication of how his patients have felt. I will be seeking medical care elsewhere and am very disappointed with Dr. Makover. His general demener is acceptable, but attentiveness is less than desirable to say the least. There is far more involved in providing patient care. Most importantly to me, is actually hearing what your patient is saying, not just listening.

He was not interested in my Chief Complaint or in me as a patient/human being. He claimed lack of knowledge but did not say he was going to look into my possible problem by the next visit which was scheduled 2 weeks later, pending lab results despite the fact that I had an acute problem. Cold and distant disposition.
Excellent.
