A staff member of Kirk Eye Center since 1990, Optometrist Dr. Dean Bauer, specializes in contact lens fittings and works closely pre- and post-operatively with refractive patients. He has participated in several studies involving Laser Vision Correction and is currently directing a study for Conductive Keratoplasty outcomes. He is a 1981 graduate of Central Michigan University and a 1985 graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry. During 1982 to 1984, Dr. Bauer was affiliated with the Northwestern University Faculty Foundation Eye Center and with the West Side Veterans Administration Hospital in 1985. He later became a staff member at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Eye Center in Chicago from 1986 to 1990, practicing optometry with a concentration in contact lenses, glaucoma and other ocular diseases.
Dr. Bauer is an active member of both the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association. He serves as a preceptor for Illinois Eye Institutes's student externship program.

Dr. Bauer is great. The staff there is all very friendly and good at their jobs, but the wait is looooooong. I waited 20 minutes before being seen by a tech for the eye exam and then 45 minutes from the time I was seated in that waiting area until I was seen by Dr. Bauer. It just seems excessive to be there for an hour and a half.
