Our medical retina specialist, Dr. Dean Cummins, completed his undergraduate training at Harvard College. He then went on to obtain a Masters in Science and Philosophy and a PhD. in Neurophysiology at Yale University between the years 1979-1983. In 1988, he obtained his Medical Degree from Tufts School of Medicine. He completed an internship in the field of Internal Medicine the following year at Faulkner Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Cummins then returned to Yale for Ophthalmology training at the Yale Eye Center, which he concluded in 1993. During his training, he received the Yale Excellence in Ophthalmology Award, two years in a row. In 1994, he joined the Joslin Diabetes Center at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School to complete a fellowship in Medical Retina. Dr. Cummins has been a prominent Medical Retina specialist in the New York & New Jersey Metropolitan areas since 1994. His specialty areas are diabetic eye problems and macular degeneration. During this time he has been a Retina Attending and Instructor at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He was also named one of America's Top Ophthalmologists between the years 2002-2008. Dr. Cummins is married and the father of a daughter. In his free time he is a professional musician, playing jazz, drums and composing music.
