Dr. Shabas has great bedside manner and listens very attentively. I feel 1000% comfortable and trust her clinical judgement. Definitely recommend. I also appreciated she did research through literature to find answers for my questions and got back to me by email after my telehealth visit.

She was kind, considerate, listened, assessed & came up w a plan w me. Extremely knowledgeable in her field, in my opinion. While I don’t live near NYC, I was able to see her quickly via virtual visit & would consider driving the 300 miles to see her in person, if I ever needed to. In addition, her office staff was kind, helpful & patient. Excellent communication from the office staff from the time the appointment was scheduled up to the appointment time.

Dr. Debra Shabas is a board-certified general neurologist specializing in multiple sclerosis. After graduating from Cornell University, Dr. Shabas attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She performed two years of residency in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital/Cornell Medical Center, and subsequently, a residency in neurology at Albert Einstein School of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center.
Her fellowship training in neuromuscular diseases and electrophysiology was completed at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Shabas practiced at the Multiple Sclerosis Center at Helen Hayes Hospital and was recruited to the NYU Multiple Sclerosis Center. She developed a program at NYU for women with chronic neurological conditions and neurological disabilities, later replicating the program at two nonprofit organizations in New York City.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Shabas has worked in private practice at Soho Medical and in the neurology departments at NYU and Mount Sinai Downtown. She has numerous publications on multiple sclerosis, disability, and disparities in care. She has been chosen as a Super Doctor in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2019 and 2020.

I saw Dr. Shabas for a telemed visit and it was as if I was right in her medical office. She was right on time and quite friendly, but professional. She spent considerable time getting to know my lengthly medical history, including the current medicines that I take. Dr. Shabas also wanted to consult with one of my other doctors before administering treatment, which also shows her professionalism. Lastly, she was right on time for our virtual visit, which was lovely. Overall, my experience with Dr. Shabas was excellent, I highly recommend her as a provider, and I look forward to our next appointment.
