Born and raised in San Antonio, Dr. Chumley attended Central Catholic High School and has spent the last three decades in private practice. Although he has special interest and training in therapeutic endoscopy for hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and sphincter of Oddi disorders, he also has extensive expertise in treating patients with Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, and refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease. Dr. Chumley has held several hospital and professional appointments and remains very active in organized medicine, legislative advocacy, and the development of medical education programs. In recent years, he has served as President of the American College of Gastroenterology, President of the Texas Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, and President of the Bexar County Medical Society. He also has served as president of the Texas A&M Medical & Dental Society and of the UTMB Internal Medicine Alumni Association. He continues to help train gastroenterology fellows and maintains a clinical faculty appointment of Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He and his wife of over 30 years, Louise, are the proud parents of three adult children, Chris, Keith, and Natalie.

good bedside manner. just rushed through things a bit and said everything was okay. I am medically savvy so I knew what questions to ask him to get the answers I needed so it ended up great. I believe otherwise he just wanted to send me to have an MRI or CAT scan and I opted for MRI due to the radiation in a CAT. He said that was fine. In the pelvic region a doc will usually order an ultra sound so I asked him and without reason he said no lets do MRI. So just keep asking questions and know which ones to ask and he's great!! I liked his stories. Fun Guy!
