More about Dr. Demetrios Louis, MD
Dr. Louis is a lifelong Chicagoan who grew up on the North Shore of Chicago. Dr. Louis went to Cornell University and Michigan State University, ultimately receiving an undergraduate degree in Physiology. He then returned home to pursue advanced studies in Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois. Afterward, he received his medical degree at St. Matthew's University where he graduated at the top of his class. Dr. Louis then returned back to Chicago and began an internship in General Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. While at Rush, he was also involved in extensive research in General Surgery and Pain, and helped create protocols for fast-tracking surgical patients in the post-operative period. Dr. Louis then completed a residency in Anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center. He then left Chicago for Boston in order to complete a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard University, one of the world's most prestigious pain medicine programs. After completion of fellowship, he spent one year in Boston at a teaching affiliate of Tuft's University, where he practiced Interventional Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. After that year, Dr. Louis decided to return back home to Chicago to practice Interventional Pain Medicine with his friend and colleague Dr. Paul Marsiglia at Innovative Pain Specialists. In addition, Dr. Louis is on the medical staff of Northwest Community Hospital where he is actively involved in treating patients with pain. Dr. Louis is also double board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Louis likes to spend his time watching Chicago sports, playing sports, traveling, cartography, and being with family
