Getting to know Nora Martin

Hello, my name is Nora Martin and I am a Licensed Social Worker and individual psychotherapist. I am passionate about working with individuals of all ages and am committed to creating a client-centered, nonjudgemental space grounded in warmth, patience, and care. I believe that my clients are the experts of their own lives and I am dedicated to working collaboratively in order to help them effectively implement changes in their lives to reach their goals. My educational background includes a Masters in Social Work from University of Illinois Chicago, as well as a Bachelor of Science in psychology with a minor in women and gender studies from DePaul University. Before my time with BSG, I interned in the pediatric unit of a hospital, where I had the opportunity to work with and support children and families through particularly stressful times. This experience informs my ability to support clients from all walks of life who are looking for help with navigating difficult circumstances. I practice through a flexible and integrative psychodynamic approach and incorporate other modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Strengths Based Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am particularly interested in helping clients build confidence, strengthen their sense of identity, and develop tools to live a meaningful life. In my free time I enjoy doing pottery, spending time with my cat Lucky, and reading (especially historical fiction)!

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is flexible and always client centered. I believe one of the most important components of a productive session is meeting the client where they are that day - if you are looking for a space to talk and have someone listen, we can do that. If you want someone to help you develop a more concrete plan or identify goals, we can do that too. It is very important to me that the client feels they can show up however they need to that day and I will be there to support them.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me might look like checking in at the beginning and assessing with the client what they are needing in that moment. From there, we might process recent life events together or possibly revisit broader goals we have been working on. At the end of the session I am always open to feedback!
