Hi!!! I pray all is well (and if wellness if not yet experienced on the regular, it will be!)! My name is Dr. Devin N. Bailey, or "Dr. Devin", (so nicknamed my favorite physician mentor...THANKS Dr. Rush!)... Anyways, I AM A dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner & Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by way of Virginia Commonwealth University (RAM Nation!), born & raised in Newport News, VA...more specifically, Warwick Lawns!
I have always been different, intuitive, inquisitive, weird, enigmatic, adventurous (risk-taker), the one that actually prefers to be out of the box rather than in it (all good traits in my opinion) from day 1! But naturally, when you don't fit in, you stand out, and to no surprise, I stood out and perhaps even got into a little trouble here & there, and yes, even bullied. However, being me is my gift & my purpose! I AM the only me God blessed this world with (as are you!) & It by default means that I have a specific purpose to fulfill! this revelation in & of itself means that I AM good enough, I have ABSOLUTELY nothing to prove & nobody to compete with (other than who I was yesterday)! I AM "the baddest" (thanks to my girl Trina and my dude Sho Nuff') just because I AM me! although it may sound paradoxical, there is freedom in knowing that your entire being was created on purpose, for an intended purpose-a purpose that is greater than yourself!
One of my purposes in life happens to be serving others by way of medicine & nursing- a purpose I do NOT take lightly! As an African American woman in the world, and in the world of medicine & nursing, I have firsthand experience and exposure to the continued disparities as it relates to the treatment of African Americans within our society and more specifically, within the healthcare system.
