Edwin Ramirez, MD, is a fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a second generation Obstetrician and Gynecologist with a special interest in pelvic floor reconstruction, fertility preservation and minimally invasive surgery. After graduating from High School in 1993, he was accepted to the Michael E. DeBakey surgical program at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was exposed to microsurgical procedures and heart transplants. After completing four years of medical school training at the University Autonoma of Guadalajara, he then went to receive his medical degree from New York Medical College and began his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. He then completed the rest of his training at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center in Staten Island, New York where he was nominated as chief resident and awarded for his excellence in laparoscopic technique.
Dr. Edwin Ramirez is a pioneer of Uterine Transplantation. He has been invited as a guest speaker to several national and international conferences in Colombia, Iran, India, Italy, Spain, Sweden, South Africa, Egypt, France, China, Russia, El Salvador and Brazil. After 11 years of research, Dr. Ramirez and his surgical team announced by publication, "The World's First Successful Live Birth in a Uterine Allotransplant in the Sheep model". This type of research in the near future will aid patients with Reproductive problems.
Dr. Ramirez is an active member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist (ACOG) and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopist (AAGL). He moderates a special interest group "Fertility Research Foundation" at the ACOG every year since 2005 and train UCLA residents over advanced laparoscopic techniques and Robotic surgery. He also serves as a consultant for Ethicon Endo-Surgery and has been actively involved in teaching and training other gynecologic surgeons over the most current minimally invasive techniques.
