What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a seasoned psychiatrist and will do everything I can to help you resolve your issues and find relief from suffering. I am experienced in diagnosis, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology ( medication management) . I also will work with you if you don't want medication; we embrace all effective methodologies including holistic approaches including meditation, etc. I believe that the body and mind are united, so I will ask you about your physical health, what meds you are taking, and make referrals for any further evaluations of medical issues if that is needed. If I do not have an answer I will help you find it and when needed, refer you to other physicians and therapist who might help you. I am cautious in the use of controlled substances for your own benefit. I will prescribe them when indicated. I do my best to care for the patient and serve them with integrity, honesty, and information. My fees are out-of-pocket.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I do an in-depth interview, starting with "How may I help you today?" I listen at length to understand the client's concerns. We explore it thoroughly getting a history of symptoms and what treatments may have been tried. I then do a thorough history of mental issues, then physical issues. I come to a diagnosis and make a treatment plan that may involve psychotherapy recommendation (to be referred to a psychotherapist if the patient does not have one) and medication management which I will do. I will answer all questions about the medication including benefits, side effects, interactions with other meds (including over-the-counter, e.g. non-prescription) and supplements the patient might be taking. I also evaluate substance abuse issues and smoking of cigarettes. These substances can influence mood and cognition and need to be considered for the patient's total mental health. I schedule a f/up appt of 30 min within a week or two depending on the condition. I give the patient my cell phone and email address as to be available for any quesitons that may arise between sessions.

She was a careful listener and gave insightful advice. I would recommend seeing her. She's empathetic and speaks a bit about her own experiences to let you know she related and that it's not just a medical standing point.
