Getting to know Dr. Alyson Appleton

PLEASE NOTE: I see adults located in Ohio (no Medicaid or Medicare) who are not taking or looking to be prescribed controlled substances. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Boston University, completed my Doctor of Medicine at West Virginia University, and finished my Psychiatry residency at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

What should a new client know about working with you?

1. No controlled substances (e.g. Adderall, Ritalin, Klonopin, Xanax, Ambien) will be prescribed. I do not accept patients who are regularly taking benzodiazepines (like Klonopin or Xanax) or sedative-hypnotics (like Ambien) and will check this via the online Rx reporting system prior to confirming your appointment. 2. I cannot accept patients who have Medicaid and/or Medicare benefits or patients under 18 years old. 3. You need to physically be in Ohio for every appointment and will be asked your precise location. 4. If you have not met your insurance deductible, an estimated cost of $280 is due prior to your appointment (your appointment will be cancelled if not received).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You will receive an email invitation to join ChARM patient portal where you will be able to register and complete a treatment agreement. The treatment agreement must be completed within 24 hours of scheduling your appointment. All you need for a video appointment is dependable wi-fi and a device (e.g. smartphone, computer) with audio and video capabilities. Some examples of candidates not appropriate for Appleton Telepsychiatry are those with active addiction, active eating disorder, or needing in-office administration of a long-acting injectable. Appleton Telepsychiatry is a solo private practice and thus not set up for emergencies.
