(for LGBT care seekers especially), Dr. Farqood tated she was “not comfortable establishing a patient-doctor relationship with me” upon learning that I take PrEP, an HIV prevention medication that is 99% affective at reducing the risk of transmittance & has been prescribed (largely to LGBT+ people) for over a decade. She read it my list of current medications & both the brand & medical name were completely foreign to her. With hostility, she interrogated me for using it. I tried to inform her of PrEP's importance & its distinction within the medical field (a groundbreaking, life-saving drug) which both seem obvious for a doctor to know. To attest to why I take it, I had to share my sexual orientation & practices, which, at this point, felt unsafe to share. My efforts failed, my apt. ended. Her unawareness—followed by unwillingness—to regard sexual health care, particularly that of LGBT+ people, is irresponsible, dangerous, & perhaps a product of homophobia/queerphobia she may possess.
