Dr. Francis T. Bergin Jr. is Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and is a Fellow of The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Presently he is in private practice in Chevy Chase, Maryland. He specializes in general office gynecology, menopause management, osteoporosis diagnosis & treatment and all aspects of gynecological surgery. He is on the staff of Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital.
He attended Holy Cross College on a Navy ROTC scholarship, graduating in 1965. He served as a Surface Warfare Officer for five years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation. He next attended The University of Colorado Medical School, graduating in 1974. He trained as a Resident in Obstetrics & Gynecology for four years at The National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
In 1985 he retired as a Captain after 21 years of active Navy service and joined Dr. James Powers in private practice. He has delivered over 3500 babies.
Since 1989, Dr. Bergin has been consistently cited by The Washingtonian Magazine as a “Top Doc” in the field of Gynecology.
Dr. Bergin and his wife, Carol, reside in Bethesda and are the parents of four grown children and the grandparents of three boys and three girls.
