Dr. Frederick.A. Pereira, Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine has been teaching our residents and medical students pediatric dermatology for close to a decade. He has earned a reputation of exceptionally competent and compassionate physician.
For his outstanding performance as the appointed Clinic Chief of the afternoon pediatric dermatology clinic Dr. Pereira was presented with the Department’s "Best Clinic Chief Award" in 2008. The following year, he was chosen by our residents to receive one of the Department’s most prestigious awards, "Teacher of the Year." The selection process involves a number of criteria including the quality of the physician’s knowledge and teaching skills; the individual’s ability to infuse a desire to learn more about the diseases and treatments presented; and finally, the physician must demonstrate consistent caring for his or her patients and be an inspiring role model to others in the practice of medicine.
Dr. Pereira is the author of two recently published important articles, one dealing with cutaneous histoplasmosis in the setting of HIV and another on toxic epidermal necrolysis published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Moreover, he is one of a few voluntary attendings who has mentored residents with their publications, fostering a commitment among these physicians to add to the sum of knowledge in our specialty.
Dr. Pereira is one of the most respected dermatologists for his clinical excellence, his devotion to learning, and his availability to his colleagues and students to discuss difficult pediatric cases.
