I was born in Lowell, North Carolina. This sweet, little town is located right outside of Charlotte. I am the oldest of five children. When I was two, my grandmother declared that I would grow up to be a doctor. She aptly predicted my profession. I am blessed to love what I do every single day.
Upon completion of medical school, I was granted the opportunity of a lifetime as Head of the Ophthalmology Department of Howard University. In 1977, I left Howard University Medical School and moved my young family to Dallas to open my very own solo-practice.
I have been located at St. Paul Professional Building/UT Southwestern Medical Center for over 35 years. Every day offers a new opportunity to help my patients. One of my patients just brought his new born, great granddaughter in for an eye exam as I have been with the family four generations strong.
I am an active member of the Episcopal Church of Transfiguration and I enjoy my community service involvement with the Alpha Epsilon Boulé.
On weekends, I enjoy resuscitating old cars and baking. Until my wife banned me from the kitchen under the threat of bodily harm, I was on a quest to perfect the oatmeal cookie. She gained five pounds and now I have been restricted to the garage where I perform delicate surgical procedures on an antique Mercedes.
I have two grandchildren, Luc, 9 years old, and Caroline, 7 years old. Sometimes Luc and Caroline allow me to win at ping pong but they are ruthless at chess. On Sundays, I make pancakes before we go to church. My son and daughter also live in Dallas. My daughter-in-law, Shannon, is a practicing physician specializing in wound care in Mesquite, Texas.
The procedures I routinely perform include but are not limited to cataract surgery, Glaucoma Surgery, Non-Refractive Laser Surgery, Eye lid tumor, pterygium surgery.
I use phaco emulsification Cataract. My affiliation with UT Southwest allows me access to all the lectures and fellowship with some of the best minds ophthalmology in the greater Dallas Metroplex. I have been proud to make the D-magazine’s Best Physician List for several years running.
Although I relish baking, I shall continue to deliver stellar eye care to my patients because my wife means business when she tells me to stay out of the kitchen!
