Gisela Ayub, DNP, PMHNP-BC, is a Nationally Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU). She received her first master's in nursing from PLNU and her second master's in nursing with an emphasis in psychiatry from Gonzaga University. Gisela's passion for helping those most in need began when she was a young girl dreaming of becoming a physician. Although life took a different path, she chose to become a nurse. Gisela worked as a registered nurse for over 13 years in various areas, including medical-surgical, medical rehab, cardiac, oncology, labor and delivery, and kidney dialysis, before focusing solely on psychiatry. Her inspiration to help psychiatric patients grew from witnessing their unmet needs and her desire to provide more compassionate care. Over time, her commitment to becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner strengthened, driven by the goal of delivering better care to these patients.
Gisela believes it is essential to create a safe space for patients, establishing a therapeutic environment built on trust and openness. She listens attentively and uses a comprehensive questionnaire to gather detailed information, enabling accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment planning. Collaboration with patients is central to her approach, as she views it as the most important part of the treatment process. Patient education is also one of her strengths; Gisela ensures that all her patients understand the medications they are taking, explores alternative options when needed, and discusses the pros and cons of each medication.
