Mayer MD is a board certified ophthalmologist and a fellowship trained glaucoma specialist. Prior to joining Eye Doctors of Washington, Dr. Mayer was an Assistant Professor at the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology, where he was the Director of the Cataract Surgery Section and Glaucoma Fellowship Program Director. While at Yale, Dr. Mayer was one of the first surgeon’s in Connecticut to perform a new minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, Trabectome. Dr. Mayer specializes in the consultation and management of glaucoma and complex cataracts, and he offers the latest medical, laser, and surgical options for patients, including the use of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), the ExPRESS shunt, traditional trabeculectomy, and glaucoma drainage implant surgery. Dr. Mayer graduated cum laude from Centre College, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Mayer is a graduate of the Medical College of Ohio (now the University of Toledo School of Medicine), where he received a Presidential Scholarship and was named to the AOA Honor Medical Society. Dr. Mayer obtained his ophthalmology residency training at the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Mayer undertook a fellowship in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma under the mentorship of internationally renowned glaucoma specialists, Dr. M. Bruce Shields and Dr. James C. Tsai. Dr. Mayer has published numerous book chapters, review articles, and original research papers, has been an invited lecturer at regional and national meetings, and is a reviewer for a variety of medical journal

Informative and reliable quality of solutions for my questions. He made me feel very comfortable about my expectations and the directives for future needs - surgery, although not an immediate concern. It seemed they were a bit over booked, and I felt a tiny bit rushed, although not al all rude, just efficient for his practice. In fact, the doctor did not go over the scan results with me, but the technician did, with the caveat that the doctor would explain in more detail, which I forgot to ask him. Clearly nothing out of the ordinary. Meanwhile the staff was also pleasant and helpful, many tests.

It was a good visit today.....and my eye pressure had dropped three points....from the revision surgery that Dr. Mayer performed on July 28th. I began to see you when you were staffing the Eye Center at Georgetown University Hospital....maybe in the 1980's.
