J Timothy Ammons, MD treats Colorado Ophthalmology Associates patients at our Denver & Lakewood offices. Dr. Ammons has been performing cataract refractive eye surgery since 1992 and laser refractive eye surgery since 1996, when the first FDA-approved excimer laser arrived in Denver. He is dedicated to personally caring for patients throughout the preoperative, surgical, and postoperative experience, believing that personalized care leads to optimal outcomes. Dr. Ammons also has an active cataract, glaucoma, and general ophthalmology practice.
Dr. Ammons grew up in Denver's Parkhill neighborhood. He attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude in 1979. After college, he married and took his wife, Mary, also from Denver, to England. As a Marshall scholar, he earned his Master's degree at Oxford University. He and Mary returned to Denver, where Dr. Ammons attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine and continued with his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Ammons joined Colorado Ophthalmology Associates in 1993. He is a board-certified member and past president of the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Appointed by the Governor, he served four years as a member of the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners, chairing panel A, before returning to dedicate himself full time to his ophthalmology practice. More recently, he has partnered with the Centura Global Health Initiatives to provide cataract surgery to needy patients in the Amazon Basin in Peru.
The Ammons' are busy at home raising five children. Dr. Ammons enjoys trying to keep up with them while skiing, mountain biking, climbing, and whitewater kayaking.

All of the staff was very friendly. And very sweet and accommodating with me considering I came with a toddler and an infant. I'm always nervous as a new mom of 2 but I felt very good at this office with these professionals. The service was very efficient when I was called back. They were patient and determined to get my prescription as accurate as possible. Highly recommend this office, these doctors.

I liked Dr Ammons, but the staff not so much. I felt like they were a bit rude, and impatient with basic procedures. Also their medicaid acceptance policy was misleading. Good Dr., not so good everything else.

Dr. Ammons was very nice and cheerful and my appointment was quick. My boyfriend and I went in together and he waited less than 10 minutes; I waited maybe 5-10 minutes more but my appointment was schedule for a later time anyway. Everyone was in a good mood and got us in and out of there quickly.

I thought Doctor Ammons was very knowledgeable and friendly. When I was being treated, it was pleasant and professional. However, I was taken back 15 minutes late for an appointment first thing (8:30 am) in the morning. After working with the nurse and being told the doctor would be in, in 2-3 minutes, I sat alone in the room for over 25 minutes. I understand emergencies happen and things pop up, but it would be great to deal with a doctor's office that also provides great service and communicates with its patients. Had I been told there was an emergency, and I might have to wait a few minutes longer than expected, I would have been more patient. Feeling neglected and receiving negative attitude left me with a bad taste in my mouth when it could have been easily avoided with a friendly update.

One member of his office staff was extremely rude, but I talked with Dr. Ammons about it. Dr. Ammons and his assistant were empathetic. I hope someone has a discussion with her about throwing a chart down on the counter. My mind was on my kids' eyes. I had completed the insurance portion to get the appt. underway and wanted to complete the rest afterward.

Dr. Ammons is the most caring doctor out there. While I was traveling last year with a month stay in Colorado he was able to schedule me in to have cataract surgery and get me out of town. Did both eyes within one week and I was able to get back on the road and enjoy my retirement. Doing my yearly exam with him so he can keep a check on my eyes, and all is well.

I am more than impressed with Dr Ammons and his staff. I am in Colorado for a few months and have been trying to resolve my issue with not being able to see with new glasses for over three months. I was able to make an appointment the same day on ZOCDOC.COM. The front office staff were professional and friendly. The wait time was less than 20 mins and the actual time I spent with either his nurse or the doctor himself was about 35 mins. He is very thorough and kind. He listened to all the trouble I have been having trying to resolve my not being able to see. He explained clearly my medical situation and the procedure necessary to correct it. All of my questions were answered clearly and he scheduled surgery for cataracts within the week.
I highly recommend this doctor!!!!
