Dr. J. Theodore Brown Jr. holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York, Stony Brook. He is a licensed clinical psychologist certified by the American Association of State Psychology Boards to practice in Washington DC, New Jersey, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
Dr. Brown has extensive experience specializing in mental health and substance abuse. He helped establish the first outpatient mental health clinic for the United States Navy's Regional Medical Center in Okinawa, Japan.
He has served on faculty as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown and Howard University Schools of Medicine. He was associate director of the Department of Psychiatry Liaison Consultation and the founder and creator of the first Acute PCP Intoxication Treatment Unit in the United States at DC General Hospital in Washington DC.
Dr. Brown has served as an expert witness on the mentally ill and PCP intoxication to the 92nd United States Congress. He has been a special consultant for the Department of State and represented the United States overseas as an expert on mental health. He has also served as a special consultant on substance abuse to the Mayo Clinic. Additionally, he was the founder and CEO of the company that created the first home drug testing system approved for over-the-counter (OTC) sale by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the UK Medical Devices Agency.
Dr. Brown has served as a special expert on executive stress for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For many years, he has been a clinical consultant for the Social Security Administration's Disability Determination Bureaus nationwide, providing mental health diagnoses for persons with mental and physical disabilities.
