Dr. Kelly is my go to Ophthalmologist in NYC. I travel all the way from Texas to him as do many of his other patients because he is the best! All of his office staff are very personable and accommodating and the office is beautiful and clean. I totally trust my eyes with him. He performed my corneal cross linking procedure 1 year ago and I was here today for a 1 year follow up. All went well and I will be coming back in March for him to do my I-Brite procedure. Just book with him. You won’t regret it.

James R. Kelly, MD is the Director of Refractive Surgery Education at Northwell Health, New York City's largest healthcare provider, and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital (MEETH), one of the nation’s top-ranked specialty eye surgery centers. Dr. Kelly is the only eye surgeon in New York City certified in every FDA-approved elective vision correction surgery. Since 1996, he has personally performed over 100,000 successful vision correction procedures, making him one of the most experienced and sought-after refractive surgeons in the United States. He is located in New York City and Long Island.
Dr. Kelly is a board-certified eye surgeon and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his Doctor of Medicine from Weill Cornell Medicine. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at SUNY-Winthrop University Hospital (now NYU Langone Hospital Long Island) before undertaking a three-year ophthalmology residency at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital (MEETH). Following his residency, Dr. Kelly pursued advanced training and certification in refractive laser eye surgery. He scored in the top 2% nationwide on the ophthalmology board examination.
Dr. Kelly is an active Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and one of just 24 doctors in New York State recognized by the Refractive Surgery Alliance. He is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the New York State Ophthalmological Society, and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons. In addition to his clinical practice, he serves as a surgical proctor for Staar Surgical and a certified instructor for Alcon, training other refractive surgeons in the latest refractive surgery technology and techniques.

Waited a while but ultimately didn’t see the doctor I booked with. I like that they had a different provider with a specialty for my issue. Wait time for a 9:30 appointment had me leaving around 11:30- waited about an hour.

I can’t recommend Dr. Kelly highly enough if you’re looking for an ophthalmologist. He performed my Contoura LASIK surgery, and the results have been incredible. I now have 20/15 vision in each eye, and when using both eyes together, I can see 20/10—though I’ll admit it takes a bit of guessing :)
Dr. Kelly is extremely knowledgable, genuine, positive, and dedicated to his patients’ well-being. I did visit other ophthalmologists before deciding on him (something I’d recommend everyone do — after all, you only have two eyes, and you should be sure about your surgeon). What set him apart was his willingness to thoroughly explain each procedure and really listen to what I was hoping for. In my opinion, he raised the bar from both domain expertise and patient care perspectives. Plus, he has an extremely positive vibe - I really like that.
A huge shout-out to his OD and staff as well — just like Dr. Kelly they are: truly knowledgeable and detail-oriented.
