As a practicing psychiatrist who has completed training in adult, adolescent and child psychiatry I do not believe there is an "ideal' patient. Each person comes with unique life experiences and concerns that require individualized assessment and treatment. During my 25+ years of private practice I have developed a commitment to providing patient-centered treatment and a capacity to work with individuals throughout the life-cycle in whatever manner or circumstance they are challenged.
My position as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist places emphasis upon effectiveness and results. After an initial evaluation which ranges from 1-3 sessions I formulate a goal oriented therapy which includes each patient's participation in the plan. I combine psychodynamic understanding with the use of medication where it is indicated and agreed upon. I do not prescribe medication for any individual who is already in treatment with another clinician.
My clinical flexibility and patient-centered approach is what distinguishes my practice from most. My clinical style is a balance between reflective/exploratory and interactive; being helpful is an integral part of being effective. Increased self-awareness, symptom relief and change are interrelated and therapeutic impact should involve achieving therapeutic goals.
