Greetings, thank you for visiting Universal Pain Specialists. My name is Jay Parekh and hopefully I will have the privilege of being your doctor. I was born in Detroit and then later moved to just outside of Chicago. After completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan’ I attended Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, embracing a holistic approach to medicine early in my career. Following, medical school, I completed my Anesthesiology residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, where I was elected by the department to be chief resident. Then, I practiced anesthesia and pain management as Associate Professor at Temple University Hospital. Subsequently, I completed my Pain Fellowship under the tutelage of Dr. Ramamurthy, a founding father of pain medicine, at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Finally, I decided to settle down in my wife’s hometown of Tampa.
Pain Medicine is a passion to me and healing is my ultimate goal. Some pain conditions can be simple to treat, but others can be very challenging. I will do everything I can to alleviate your suffering. I welcome patients to challenge me and other physicians who manage their care. Do not be afraid to ask questions and request explanation of your care; after all it is your health. Finally, Universal Pain Specialists believe in a team approach, involving the patient, patients loved ones, treating physicians, and ourselves to formulate a plan that meets your personalized needs.
I believe in the power of learning and educating. I am actively involved in multiple anesthesia and pain societies, staying up to date with the latest advances in pain management.

While we did wait over an hour, part of it was because he took one extra patient before us because he knew we were a new patient and explained he wanted to have no time constraints on the visit. I love my doc, he sincerely cares about his patients needs, he would look you right in the eye and talk to you, very easy to talk to, and you can see the concern pouring out of him, I would never give up on hin, and whatever he tells me to do concerning my chronic pain I do. I listen to him and vice versa, so if you ever need a pain Dr. for any reason he is the Dr to go see.

Well it went well besides the fact that I have to wait two months for some pain relief over me using marijuana for my pain. If I was understood well as too how high my pain levels are, than I highly believe I would have been given a pain killer for one month and time to clear my system from the cannabis along with a substitute such as a pain reliever. The only reason for my usage of marijuana is to relieve this pain. How am I supposed to do this...
So in other words I feel that since the pain management doctor cannot help than who else can. I have an auto-immune disorder & multi-symptomatic illnesses that cause numerous areas in my body to ache, burn, throb and it is sad to have all your doctors point you in one direction for the past two years by saying they are not authorized to prescribe pain killers anymore because it is a pain management issue, but then yet you guys could not help me either. So sad what this world has came to. Well I guess The hospital it is then, because I AM IN PAIN!
